Bike and Hike Wilder Kaiser - Austria

Just a quick post to say that our friend Rudi, based in Soll, Austria, has his new website up and running - Bike and Hike Wilder Kaiser - offering selected biking and hiking tours with various levels of difficulty, around the Soll/Wilder Kaiser area.

Austria - Skiing in Soll and the SkiWelt. January 10th - 17th, 2009

Another week of amazingly good weather in Austria. Also back in Soll again, part of the SkiWelt, so we're getting used to finding our way around. With nearly 300 kilometers of piste and 70 Ski huts, restaurants and après-ski bars (that's one approx. every 3.9 km!), it's a fantastic area and can take a full day to cross from one end to the other.

My new ski gear for 2009! Actually this is "Monti", part if the kids ski instructors set up. The guy wearing it seemed to be having a good time though!

This is Rudi, one of the instructors from the Hochsoll Ski School who is also setting up, "Bike and hike Wilderkaiser" this summer.

Lorna, Doreen and Huw skiing under the Hartkaiserbahn, down to the Rubezhal resteraunt on the run into Ellmau. The Rubezhal is sometimes visited by the rich and famous, so we thought we'd better pop in too! The terrace has a cracking view of the Wilderkaiser, and the whole ski area is part of the SkiWelt.

My most recent trip of note was with "Apine Arena"to the village of Erwhald, just inside the Austrian border and under the shadow of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. Sadly the VF routes (or kletterstieg as their called in Austria) to the summit were only passable with crampons etc.

However we did do some other good VF's that week.The name of the first escapes me, but the situation was amazing; high above a stunning waterfall that crashed down below us!

Another route we tackeld was "Crazy Eddie". At first it was just a normal VF with the usual problems to overcome.I had heard of what was to come, but when we finally climbed up to it, it was "bigger" than expected; a 2 wire bridge approximatley 80+ metres across with very dodgy ladders, up to, and down from it!

Hi there and welcome to my new page about the hills and mountains of this fine island that myself, my wife and various friends have "scaled" over the years. Hopefully you'll find the pics and info usefull should you visit them yourself! I will gradually add more stuff including trips to Italy , Austria, Wales, The Lake District and of course Scotland.
