Italian Dolomites, Via Feratta, Averau 2a - 25th June 2013.

At last good weather, and a pleasant walk in to do Averau, a grade 2a via feratta.

With no lift access, the pleasant walk became a sweaty one as we reached the snowline.

Classic alpine artwork on one of the mountain restaurants.

For a grade 2, Averau has an awkward start, but soon becomes straightforward as you move along. Not far past this spot is a split in the route where you can take the stemples up through a chockstone, or carry on the normal route. We eventually returned, down the stemple route.

The one, slightly exposed crossing of a loose gully top where for some reason there was no cable.

Ruth and Ian at the top of the last section of via ferrata.

More snow and wet, sometimes slippy rock to negotiate before the summit.

John, descending the stemple section we missed out on the way up.

Italian Dolomites, A walk around Colfosco - 24th June 2013.

Overnight snow meant there was little we could do via ferrata wise as the fresh snow would probably be loose, wet and unconsolidated high up. We resigned ourselves to a gentle walk around the local ski area of Colfosco.

Fresh snow on the higher tops.

Looking down at the campsite in Colfosco.

Same snow, different view-ish!

Colfosco looks like it would be a nice ski area, but maybe not that big?

Glentress - Mountain Biking, Sunday 16th June 2013.

Sunday morning at Glentress near Peebles (one of the 7Stanes mountain biking venues).
The blue route takes a couple of hours and the descent isn't too hairy. All the rocks and jumps have opt out routes to the side!

Dow Crag, Coniston. C Buttress - Ordinary Route, Diff ***, 8th June 2013.

It was a sweaty walk in to Dow Crag for myself, Brian, Ian and Jimmy and the smell of a dead sheep amongst the rocks and scree above Goats Water added something extra to the "ambiance" of the route!
Brian and Jimmy gearing up at the foot of the climb; C Buttress - Ordinary Route, a Diff with three stars and 110m long.
The route follows the the crest of the buttress, to the right of the picture.
Jimmy leading, with Brian (hidden by Ian) and Ian.
Ian coming up to the (2nd ?) belay.
The guys on a steeper section of the buttress.
The crux of the route, a slightly awkward traverse up to a flake (top centre where the rope disappears).
Ian topping out at the last belay, at the end of the terrace of "Easy Terrace", with Goats Water behind.
The descent route is down the start of the "Easy Terrace" scramble, in the centre of the picture, with climbers to its left.
